John Bass to Become Diplomat of the Year 2011

The first diplomat award ceremony in Georgian media space took  place yesterday. Weekly English-language newspaper “Georgian Journal” along with the publishing house “Palitra” identified the Diplomat of the Year. The winner is the Ambassador of the US to Georgia Mr. John Bass. Prior to the event, Media Palitra has conducted a three-month poll involving local politicians, political analysts and political scientists. Accordingly, several candidates have been elicited. The winner was granted an award, exclusively designed for the ceremony. Special diplomas and prizes have been established for the participants of the ceremony by the sponsors and partners of the project, who happen to be Duty Free Alliance, Nemiroff, Glasses Store “Safilo”, Clinic “Total Charm”, Radisson Blu Iveria hotel, Jewellery Store “Christal”, book store network “Biblusi”, Hotel Tbilisi Marriot, Courtyard Marriot, etc. These prizes were granted to the representatives of different companies and embassies, who won in the competitions taking place during the event.

The primary purpose of the project is to make the Diplomatic Corps more active in promoting Georgia and further development of democracy in the country. Moreover, Georgian Journal intends to revitalize the relations between the Georgian media and the Diplomatic Corps.
Within the scope of the project, representatives of diplomatic corps, international as well as local non-government organizations, politicians, experts and businessmen have attended the event. Journalists of printed and electronic media, along with the employees of “Media Palitra Publishers” have been invited to the final event to cover the ceremony and its results.
From this year on, “Georgian Journal” and Media-house Palitra will establish Diplomat Award Ceremony as an annual tradition.
